Some people have the mistaken impression that, compared to uncensored comedy, clean comedy is dull comedy. However, nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, many clean comedians pride themselves on the sheer quality, intelligence, and creativity of their material. Besides, despite the fact that the term "clean comedy" essentially creates a marginalized category of comedy, the truth is that clean comedy is everywhere.
Clean comedy is accessible comedy. Clean comedy is what you see on network late-night shows such as The Tonight Show, Late Night with Conan O'Brien and the David Letterman Show. Network television has strict rules about what's commonly considered to be offensive language and subject matter. Any comedian who appears on these shows has to pass a battery of auditions and screenings of his or her material beforehand.
